Premium aluminum oxide offers improved cut and abrasive life
Open coat construction and anti-static treatment reduce loading for enhanced cut-rate and optimal abrasive life in woodworking applications
Heavyweight cloth backing is especially suited for coarser grades on wide belt and edge sanding applications
Washable backing is suitable for sanding wood with a lot of pitch/resin (belts load quickly) such as pine
Resin bond withstands high heat and pressure for longer service life
Made To Order
Fast-cutting aluminum oxide abrasive grains are resin bonded to a heavyweight cloth backing to provide a continuous cut and long-life performance, even under high heat and pressure.
3M offers a complete line of woodworking belts.
High Quality Design 3M™ Cloth Belt 370DZ resists premature loading and maintains effective cut with its open coat construction and anti-static treatment. Reduced static on the belt optimizes dust collection when used with an efficient dust collection system. This belt is manufactured with a washable backing for high production environments where washing may be required at intervals to remove pitch buildup from soft woods such as pine. If washing the belt, the product should be taken off the machine and washed offline. The product should be hung on a rack and allowed to thoroughly dry before using it again.
Aluminum Oxide Abrasive Aluminum oxide mineral is a popular choice among industrial professionals because of its cut-rate, durability, and long life. It can be used on a wide variety of materials in both woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys, and is the most commonly used industrial abrasive. The abrasive particles are adhered to the cloth backing with resin, creating a strong bond that withstands high heat and pressure.
Load Resistant Loading occurs when wood or paint dust clogs the surface of the belt and the abrasive points, rendering the belt ineffective. Open coat construction means the abrasive grains are spaced slightly apart so that dust and debris have an outlet rather than loading the abrasive. Additionally, the open coat feature provides a more aggressive cut than a comparable closed coat abrasive of the same grade.
Abrasive belts come in many different widths and lengths and are used on a variety of different belt sanding machines for many different applications on both wood and metal. 3M offers a broad selection of belts to fit most any industrial belt sander. Wider belts are used with wide belt sanders to dimension or finish wood panels, smooth rough cut edges of metal sheets, or add a grain pattern to stainless steel sheets. Medium-width belts fit onto edge sanders for sanding flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges; and narrow belts are used with portable belt sanders for sanding or leveling joint areas of wood pieces.
Belts come with various splices that join the belt ends. A film media splice achieves a secure bond with a joining film that minimizes chatter marks, ensures a smooth running belt, and produces consistent finishing results. A sine wave splice is constructed of interlocking fingers that enable the splice to travel smoothly over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and provide added strength to the joint area. Sine wave splices are typically used for coarser grades and wide belts as well as on belts that are going to be washed.
