Different densities signal varying levels of flexibility of the holder pad. Soft density holder pads are more pliable and responsive, so they're a good fit for finer grade abrasives performing finishing and contouring. This medium grade pad is good for discs that do general-purpose work. Firm density holder pads are more rigid to support coarser abrasives that perform heavy stock removal.
